LOVE CHANGES

I've been geeking out on the 80's rnb tip lately... I found out that the Sequence's version of the song "Love Changes"
isn't the original version or even the most popular. The 70's band Mother's Finest was the first group to do it and Kashif with Meli'sa Morgan had the most chart success with it. Someone wrote on youtube that the Mother's Finest version has the best instrumentation, The Sequence has the best vocals and the Kashif is the most radio friendly and I think that says it all. The Sequence is still my favorite...

A little background: Mother's Finest was a 70's rock/funk group. The Sequence is an early 80's rap/rnb girl group. Angie Stone was one of the members and I think their best know song is "Funk You Right On Up" which is a long disco rap number. Kashif has a bunch of great songs, but was most successful as a producer. He produced and wrote "Love Come Down" and "I'm in Love" for Evelyn Champagne King, and a few early hits for Whitney Houston most notably. On this song he enlisted Meli'sa Morgan, best known for her song "Fools Paradise" which was resung by Mary J Blige for "Can't Knock the Hustle" by Jay-Z. By the way, before Serato "Fools Paradise" was so annoying to mix because it doesn't start on the 1. Now you can just drop it and match it up to the little lines...

ROUGH NIGHT

Saturday night was dead in NY - everyone was out of town. I was DJing at an Irish bar and it was Fleet Week so it was full of Navy guys stealing everyones girlfriends. Those dudes are cool and fun to watch but they make the worst requests (Laid, And I Love HER). They also requested Sinatra, Who Let the Dogs Out and Right Said Fred.

OOHHH

"Here I Come" by Barrington Levy is one of my favorite reggae records ever partly because of the strong beat and melody, but mostly because of the ridiculous story. Let's get this straight here: He's in front of a girl's house talking to her on the intercom. He has a son with her but not a daughter. She tells him that since the elevator is broken he needs to use the stairs and if he wants to see his son he better hurry. He grabs a bunch of roses and runs up the stairs. Two months later she calls him up and tells him to get the kid because since she's young she doesn't want to take care of it. This pisses him off... LOL I guess this was as good as Jerry Springer or Maury in 1980s Jamaica...

What's up with a more roots version of this with another singer on it who does the second verse reiterating Barrington's first verse?
